This past Saturday, November 11, 2023, OURONN had the incredible opportunity to be featured at TECHCORPShack 2023! TECHCORPShack is a 12-hour Ohio-wide “hackathon” event for high school students that takes place simultaneously in Columbus, Dayton, Akron, and Elyria.
The event aims to empower these students by providing them with a platform to develop a mobile app that addresses a real-world need or problem in their community. With 200 participants competing statewide, the atmosphere was filled with excitement and creativity!
Empowering High School Students
TECHCORPShack is an event that truly showcases the power of youth and their potential to bring about positive change through technology. By giving high school students the opportunity to develop their own mobile apps, TECHCORPShack fosters creativity, problem-solving skills, and teamwork. Throughout the 12-hour event, students collaborated in teams, brainstormed ideas, and worked tirelessly to bring their app concepts to life. This hands-on experience not only enhanced their technical skills but also encouraged them to think critically and tackle real-world issues head-on.
The impact of TECHCORPShack goes beyond just the competition. Through this event, students gain exposure to the world of technology, entrepreneurship, and innovation. They interact with industry professionals, mentors, and volunteers who guide and inspire them throughout the process. By providing a supportive and inclusive environment, TECHCORPShack enables students to explore their passions and realize their potential in the tech industry.
Featuring The New Take On Social Media
Every year, TECHCORPShack features a promising young app developer to inspire the students. OURONN was invited to be this year’s featured app by Lisa M. Chambers, TECH CORPS’ National Executive Director. An interview with OURONN’s Co-Founders, Elisha and Stephanie Muhammad, and Lisa Chambers was shown during the hackathon in Columbus, Dayton, Akron, and Elyria. In addition to the interview being shown, Elisha and Stephanie were able to attend the Columbus event in person. It was exciting to see the students go from learning about Swift from TECH CORPS volunteers in the morning, to working diligently on their teams of five to bring their visions to life!

TECH CORPS: Positively Impacting the Community
TECHCORPShack is held each year by TECH CORPS, a nonprofit whose vision is of a technologically literate society in which all K-12 students have equal access to the technology skills, programs and resources that will enrich their education and allow them to successfully compete in the global workforce. They work to inspire a new generation of technology leaders, bridge the digital divide, and deliver innovative technology programming to schools and nonprofit organizations.
OURONN’s Co-Founders, Elisha and Stephanie Muhammad, know TECH CORPS’ positive impact firsthand. As members of the TECH CORPS NSBE Jr. Chapter in high school, they had the opportunity to learn about various types of engineering through programs and events. They met students who attended other schools throughout Columbus and formed connections that are still present to this day. They also attended NSBE conferences where they were able to see professional, Black Engineers in action. Elisha and Stephanie still appreciate the impact that Lisa Chambers (TECH CORPS’ National Executive Director), Carla Easley (TECH CORPS’ Director of Operations), and other NSBE Professional volunteers had on their lives.
TECHCORPShack 2023 was an unforgettable experience for OURONN. We hope that this event continues to empower and inspire the next generation of technologists, innovators, and change-makers.
