OURONN, the new take on social media built for community connection.

One of the most consistent questions we get about OURONN is: “Where can I buy a t-shirt?” Now that The OURONN Shop is live, you can get one from there!

In early October of 2023, OURONN participated in a Pitch Competition for High School Students that took place during the FutureLAND Conference in Cleveland, Ohio on October 5th and 6th. The Pitch Competition was developed by 

 with support from the Teaching & Learning Collaborative.

Over 150 high school students from eight Greater Cleveland schools participated in the event. It was the first High School Pitch Competition hosted at Cleveland State University. During the event, students were given a bag of various materials. They worked together in teams to build a product from the materials that would be useful for surviving on an island. The teams then pitched their product to a panel of judges and a winning group was chosen!

OURONN’s Co-Founders, Elisha and Stephanie Muhammad attended the High School Pitch Competition. Stephanie spoke on behalf of OURONN during a panel discussion meant to encourage and inspire the young entrepreneurs. The panel discussion included two other Startup Founders from the Cleveland area. Elisha assisted during the students’ pitches as a timekeeper to help the students stay on track during their presentations. Additionally, both Co-Founders met and conversed with the students during the students’ lunch break.

Elisha and Stephanie also attended the FutureLAND Conference. 

 is an annual two-day tech conference hosted in Cleveland, Ohio. Its goal is to support diverse startup tech entrepreneurs, existing small businesses, innovators, and creatives throughout Northeast Ohio to celebrate and grow a diverse technology and small business economy and ecosystem. Elisha and Stephanie enjoyed interesting sessions from diverse speakers and made connections with technology enthusiasts from Cleveland and elsewhere.

This past Saturday, November 11, 2023, OURONN had the incredible opportunity to be featured at TECHCORPShack 2023! TECHCORPShack is a 12-hour Ohio-wide “hackathon” event for high school students that takes place simultaneously in Columbus, Dayton, Akron, and Elyria.

The event aims to empower these students by providing them with a platform to develop a mobile app that addresses a real-world need or problem in their community. With 200 participants competing statewide, the atmosphere was filled with excitement and creativity!

TECHCORPShack is an event that truly showcases the power of youth and their potential to bring about positive change through technology. By giving high school students the opportunity to develop their own mobile apps, TECHCORPShack fosters creativity, problem-solving skills, and teamwork. Throughout the 12-hour event, students collaborated in teams, brainstormed ideas, and worked tirelessly to bring their app concepts to life. This hands-on experience not only enhanced their technical skills but also encouraged them to think critically and tackle real-world issues head-on.

The impact of TECHCORPShack goes beyond just the competition. Through this event, students gain exposure to the world of technology, entrepreneurship, and innovation. They interact with industry professionals, mentors, and volunteers who guide and inspire them throughout the process. By providing a supportive and inclusive environment, TECHCORPShack enables students to explore their passions and realize their potential in the tech industry.

Every year, TECHCORPShack features a promising young app developer to inspire the students. OURONN was invited to be this year’s featured app by Lisa M. Chambers, TECH CORPS’ National Executive Director. In addition to the interview being shown, Elisha and Stephanie were able to attend the Columbus event in person. It was exciting to see the students go from learning about Swift from TECH CORPS volunteers in the morning, to working diligently on their teams of five to bring their visions to life!

TECH CORPS: Positively Impacting the Community

, a nonprofit whose vision is of a technologically literate society in which all K-12 students have equal access to the technology skills, programs and resources that will enrich their education and allow them to successfully compete in the global workforce. They work to inspire a new generation of technology leaders, bridge the digital divide, and deliver innovative technology programming to schools and nonprofit organizations.

OURONN’s Co-Founders, Elisha and Stephanie Muhammad, know TECH CORPS’ positive impact firsthand. As members of the TECH CORPS NSBE Jr. Chapter in high school, they had the opportunity to learn about various types of engineering through programs and events. They met students who attended other schools throughout Columbus and formed connections that are still present to this day. They also attended NSBE conferences where they were able to see professional, Black Engineers in action. Elisha and Stephanie still appreciate the impact that Lisa Chambers (TECH CORPS’ National Executive Director), Carla Easley (TECH CORPS’ Director of Operations), and other NSBE Professional volunteers had on their lives.

TECHCORPShack 2023 was an unforgettable experience for OURONN. We hope that this event continues to empower and inspire the next generation of technologists, innovators, and change-makers.

OURONN at TECHCORPShack 2023!

OURONN hosted OURONN Community Social #1 on September 28, 2023! It was an in-person networking event that took place in Cincinnati, OH, and brought together people from various communities. We're excited to share a recap of the very first Community Social!

Throughout the evening, the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as attendees made connections and began fostering new relationships. The event provided a unique opportunity for like-minded individuals to meet, expand their networks, and learn first-hand what their community has to offer.

One highlight of the evening was the “Introduction Prize”. Attendees who met someone new went up to the front as pairs and introduced each other to the rest of the group. Then they both received a prize! This created a fun and engaging environment, encouraging attendees to connect with each other and showcase their newfound connections.

In addition to the introduction prizes, there was also an exciting raffle. Attendees eagerly participated, hoping to win some fantastic prizes. The raffle added an extra layer of excitement and camaraderie to the event.

Back in August, The OURONN Team decided to shake things up a bit. In the midst of new feature releases and a whole lot of in-person community engagement, we released “A Chat About OURONN”. We created this four-part video series to give people all over a better understanding of OURONN, directly from the Co-Founders themselves!

Previously, the only people who were able to learn about OURONN in depth were the people who’d met The OURONN Team in person. The host of “A Chat About OURONN”, T.March’e Thomas-Denson, was one such person. She met the OURONN Co-Founders, Elisha and Stephanie Muhammad, at a small business vending event in Cincinnati, OH. After learning more about OURONN, she encouraged them to record an interview so that more people could learn about the vision and history behind OURONN. Thanks to her suggestion and encouragement, “A Chat About OURONN” was realized!

"A Chat About OURONN" was a special series where The OURONN Team gave some history about the platform, answered some commonly asked questions and just chatted about OURONN. It featured OURONN’s Co-Founders, Elisha and Stephanie Muhammad, and was hosted by T.March’e Thomas-Denson!

In the first part, we gave some history about OURONN and covered a few commonly asked questions. In the second part, we talked about moving from Columbus, OH to Cincinnati, OH, getting started promoting, OURONN's 2022 revamp, encouraging young people, and how you can help support OURONN. In the third part, the OURONN Co-Founders talked about why they built OURONN, what makes OURONN a "new take on social media", and some of the best ways to help support OURONN. In the fourth and final part, we talked about how Stephanie needs to get a hobby, part of OURONN's inspiration, Elisha's dislike of fruit pies, and the best ways to contact OURONN!

When social media platforms were first introduced, they revolutionized the way we connected and interacted with one another. The social media landscape may have taken a turn in the last several years but OURONN was built to help get it back on track!

Elisha and Stephanie, the dynamic duo behind OURONN, are business partners and sisters. Growing up together, they shared a common interest in building meaningful connections and seeing their community connect. Their shared experiences and complementary skills came into play when they were inspired to build OURONN.

Elisha brings a creative flair to the table. With a background in Multi-Media Design and Development (specializing in Graphic Design) and a keen eye for detail, she has played a pivotal role in shaping OURONN's aesthetic experience. Elisha’s creative passion has brought unique elements to the platform and its marketing materials, including 99+ custom characters that represent what ‘community’ means in OURONN.

Stephanie has always been passionate about technology and all things coding. With a background in Software Engineering, she is the ‘typing-force’ behind OURONN's web, iOS and Android apps.

OURONN takes a different approach to social media. It puts community connection at the heart of its mission. So while you’ll find the profiles, posts, videos, messaging, and topics (AKA hashtags) you’d expect from a social media platform, OURONN uses those features to empower users to connect with like-minded individuals, develop meaningful relationships, and ultimately help to build stronger communities.

OURONN’s features also include “Splashes”, 10-seconds-or-less videos you can upload and “Events” which you can create or attend to further connect with your community. In addition to that, OURONN does away with traditional algorithmic feeds and ads so you can see the content from the people you want to see. And best of all, even with all of those features, OURONN simply does not sell your data.

Additionally (and uniquely), OURONN maintains a physical presence in its local community. The OURONN Team has been spotted behind tables at events, passing out flyers in the community, attending festivals and conferences, on panel discussions, paying it forward with high school students, and even hosting a “Community Social” to help facilitate those in-person community connections!
